Update from the West Haven Board of Education – Carrigan Intermediate School
Following this morning’s power issue, we have re-entered the building safely. However, the 3rd floor remains without power. Out of an abundance of caution, we will be dismissing students early today at 12:30 PM.

Update from the West Haven Board of Education:
This morning, a squirrel came into contact with a power line, landing onto our transformer leading to a small fire-related incident in an unused area of Carrigan Intermediate School. The West Haven Fire Department responded promptly and the situation was quickly brought under control. At no time was there any threat to the safety of students or staff. Everyone is safe and accounted for.
As a result, the school is currently experiencing a power outage caused by a tripped breaker connected to the generator. Our facilities team is actively resetting the breaker now.
We anticipate full power will be restored within the next 10 minutes.
All building staff, including secretaries, are currently outside with students. As a result, our phones will be temporarily unavailable. Parents will be contacted and notified of the situation via phone message shortly after we re-enter the building. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
