On Friday, March 27, 2026, six West Haven students were honored at the 21st Annual South Central Area Superintendents’ Association (SCASA) Student Awards Luncheon, held at La Bella Vista in Waterbury, Conn.
Representing West Haven were WHHS seniors Carly Morabito and Adam Chouiki, Bailey eighth-graders Ella McDonnell and Antonio Pina, and Carrigan sixth-graders Kuwaisha Saquin and Keegan Jackson.
The SCASA awards program allows area superintendents to recognize students’ accomplishments based on academic, extra-curricular, and community service criteria.

Carly Morabito – Grade 12, West Haven High School
Carly is an accomplished and dedicated student in the Class of 2026, currently ranked 3rd in her class with a cumulative GPA of 4.9698. She has demonstrated strong leadership and commitment to her school community, serving as Class Council Vice President for the past two years and will be the Captain of the Girls Lacrosse Team this year. Carly is actively involved in a wide range of student organizations, including our SAVE Club, SADD Club, Peer Advocates, National Honor Society, and Unified Sports, reflecting her passion for leadership, advocacy, and inclusion. Beyond the classroom, she is deeply committed to community service, volunteering at numerous local events such as youth baseball camps and clinics, as well as seasonal programs hosted at several of our elementary schools. Through her academic excellence, leadership roles, and dedication to service, Carly exemplifies integrity, teamwork, and a genuine commitment to making a positive impact both within her school and throughout her community.
Adam Chouiki – Grade 12, West Haven High School
Adam has served as a class officer for several years and currently serves as Co-Vice President of Student Council and Co-President of Student Government. He is also Co-Captain of the Debate Team and Varsity Tennis Team, leading with discipline and collaboration. Adam previously conducted neuroscience research through Yale University, studying cerebellar function and neurological disease. He is the co-founder of the Medical Access Pathway (M.A.P.), a student-led club expanded statewide that connects underrepresented students with Yale physicians and hands-on exposure to medical specialties through workshops, speaker events, and mentorship. His leadership and service work was recognized by News 8. In addition to his academics, Adam is an award-winning photographer and videographer whose work has reached millions. He documented a medical mission in Gaza and plans to pursue a career in medicine with hopes to make a lasting impact on patients and communities.
Ella McDonnell – Grade 8, Bailey Middle School
Ella is the embodiment of perseverance, integrity, and kindness, qualities that make her an exceptional recipient of this award. She is an outstanding student who consistently puts forth her best effort in everything she does.
Ella is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, Student Council, and Peer Tutoring. She is a dedicated and motivated young lady who is always willing to help a peer or staff member. Ella enjoys helping others both within her school and in the local community. She is involved in a variety of clubs at Bailey, including Bailey Boutique, the Clothing Closet, Food Pantry, as well as Nail, Fitness, and Geography Club.
Ella is also a phenomenal athlete, participating in the school’s basketball and softball teams in addition to travel teams. Her hard work and determination inspire others, and her presence truly makes Bailey a better place. Congratulations.
Antonio Pina – Grade 8, Bailey Middle School
Antonio is an exceptional individual who truly exemplifies the qualities of a well-rounded student and leader. He is a dedicated and hardworking student who has received numerous academic and character awards at Bailey Middle School. His work ethic is unmatched and serves as an inspiration to his peers. Antonio is involved in a variety of clubs at school, including the National Junior Honor Society and Fantastic Friends, where he focuses on community service, inclusivity, and supporting his peers. He is also a dedicated basketball player who demonstrates leadership, accountability, and sportsmanship both on and off the court.
Antonio is extremely well liked by both staff and his peers. He is polite, gracious, helpful, and is one of the most conscientious students we have ever had at Bailey Middle School. He has an exceptionally bright future ahead of him. Congratulations.
Kuwaisha Saquin – Grade 6, Carrigan Intermediate School
Kuwaisha Saquin is an extremely bright and personable young lady. This pickleball and tennis player is a true role model for the entire school. K.D. loves her Math class and is an active member of The Carrigan Enrichment Academy (T.A.G.). She is also a member of the Student Council and is one half of the morning announcement team. In the future, Kuwaisha would like to study medicine in college. Her incredible family always supports and encourages her to try her best. In a very short period of time, Kuwaisha has become a valued member of Carrigan School.
Keegan Jackson – Grade 6, Carrigan Intermediate School
One of the voices of Carrigan School’s morning announcements, Keegan is a friendly, respectful, and responsible sixth grader with a great sense of humor. Outside of school, he plays hockey and baseball. Keegan has been selected as a Caring Cougar and really loves his Math and Art classes. Keegan plays trumpet in the school band and is a member of The Carrigan Enrichment Academy (T.A.G.) and Student Council. He hopes to attend Boston University in the future to study Law. Keegan credits his great family, especially Mom, Dad, and Grandpa, for being his role models and getting him to every practice and game across New England.
