On February 28, the students and staff at Carrigan School honored Black History Month with a multimedia assembly that taught, entertained, and honored all aspects of African American culture. Students attended ‘school’ to hear book reports on a number of famous black figures and view a news report covering the civil rights struggles of the 60’s and 70’s. The crowd was also entertained by the band, chorus, and djimbe drum players. Carrigan welcomed a powerful guest speaker, prominent CT realtor Roberta Hoskie who delivered the message, ‘If you see it – you can be it!’ The show culminated with a fashion show as Mrs. Troutman allowed multiple students and staff members to wear traditional African dashikis. It was a fantastic way to end Carrigan’s monthlong celebration of Black history, but as we remind our students - Black history is American history!
