The district is reminding families of some back-to-school basics regarding busing, the food services program, new student registration, and other beginning-of-the-year information.

Postcards are being sent to parents/guardians of children who are eligible for a school bus with their bus stop and schedule information. Bus routes will also be posted on this website, the individual school websites, and the district cell phone app.

Bus routes will be in full effect starting the first day of school. Students should be at their bus stops earlier than their scheduled time on the first day. Parents are responsible for their children arriving safely at the assigned bus stop in the morning and are strongly encouraged to be at the stop to greet their children in the afternoon. Kindergartners will not be allowed off the bus without a parent or guardian there to greet their child.

Parents of students who are not taking the bus for the first few days of school, or who won’t be taking the bus during the school year, should notify the school in writing before or on the first day of school.

New students and their parents/guardians must attend a registration session at Molloy School, if they haven’t already. Registration sessions at Molloy are Aug. 22-24, and Aug. 29-Sept. 2, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., and require two proofs of residency, the student’s large-size birth certificate, and copies of the student’s most recent report card or school records, as well as a copy of his or her most recent physical exam and immunization records. They should also bring copies of any 504 plans or IEPs, if applicable. New students cannot register at school; they must register at Molloy. For more information, click here.

New students will not be able to start school the same day they register. That’s why it is important that they attend new student registration at Molloy before school begins, if they have not already.

New students and children entering kindergarten must have a physical exam competed and must submit the paperwork to their school before they can start class.

Students needing medication to be administered by school staff must have a written order from their health care provider.

The Food Services Department will be serving breakfast and lunch at all schools starting on the first day of school. Any families who may be eligible for free or reduced meal prices must fill out an application as soon as possible. Forms can be found by clicking here and at every school. They must be submitted by Oct. 1. For questions, call Susanne Basta at 203-937-4373.

Students should arrive on the first day of school with a backpack, pencil and folder. Lists of any additional school supplies needed may be distributed to students at that time.

Students must provide two proofs of residency to their school, as per the district’s annual requirement. Acceptable proofs include copies of a lease or mortgage statement and copies of utility, phone or cable bills. Families should fax or bring the proofs of residency to school before classes start, or students can bring the proofs of residency on the first day of school. Fax numbers are available on the school websites.

As the new school year kicks off, families are encouraged to download the school district’s free cell phone app by searching “West Haven Public Schools” in their device’s app store. The app will have notifications, menus, calendars, snow day alerts, school and teacher contact information, Parent Portal, PTA webpages, and more.
